Trong tiếng Anh, câu hỏi đuôi là một dạng câu hỏi ngắn được đặt sau câu trần thuật để yêu cầu xác nhận thông tin. Câu hỏi đuôi thường dạng câu hỏi Yes/No. Việc luyện tập câu hỏi đuôi sẽ giúp bạn nắm vững kiến thức, tự làm bài, tự chấm điểm và cải thiện kỹ năng tiếng Anh của mình. I. Câu hỏi đuôi là gì?

Câu hỏi đuôi – tag question là một câu hỏi ngắn, được đính kèm sau câu trần thuật để chúng ta có thể hỏi lại thông tin. Đây là dạng câu hỏi dạng Yes/No Question. Chúng ta thường sử dụng câu hỏi đuôi để nhấn mạnh lại thông tin hay bác bỏ nó.

Ví dụ:

• They are student, aren’t they?
• He isn’t a doctor, is he?

II. Cấu trúc câu hỏi đuôi

1. Nguyên tắc hình thành

• Sử dụng trợ động từ giống như ở mệnh đề chính để làm phần đuôi câu hỏi.
• Nếu không có trợ động từ thì dùng do, does, did để thay thế.
• Nếu mệnh đề chính ở thể khẳng định thì phần đuôi ở thể phủ định và ngược lại.
• Thời của động từ ở đuôi phải theo thời của động từ ở mệnh đề chính.
• Chủ ngữ của mệnh đề chính và của phần đôi là giống nhau.
• Đại từ ở phần đuôi luôn phải để ở dạng chủ ngữ.
• Phần đuôi nếu ở dạng phủ định thì thường được rút gọn (n’t). Nếu không rút gọn thì phải theo thứ tự: trợ động từ + S + not?

Ví dụ:

• She is beautiful, isn’t she? (Cô ấy không cao lắm nhỉ?)
• Tom likes football, doesn’t he? (Tom thích bóng đá, phải không?)

2. Cấu trúc câu hỏi đuôi theo thì

2.1. Hiện tại đơn

• Động từ “to be”: S + am/is/are + O, isn’t/aren’t + S?
  Ví dụ: I am late, aren’t I? (Tôi đến trễ phải không?)
• Động từ thường: S + V + O, don’t/doesn’t + S?
  Ví dụ: Tom likes football, doesn’t he? (Tom thích bóng đá, phải không?)

2.2. Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn

• S + am/is/are + V_ing, isn’t/aren’t + S?
• S + am/is/are + not + V_ing, am/is/are + S?
  Ví dụ: It is raining, isn’t it? (Trời đang mưa phải không?)

2.3. Thì hiện tại hoàn thành

• S + have/has + V3/ed, haven’t/hasn’t + S?
• S + have/has + not + V3/ed, have/has + S?
  Ví dụ: Tom has gone out, hasn’t he? (Tom vừa chạy ra ngoài phải không?)

2.4. Thì quá khứ đơn

• Động từ “to be”: S + was/were + O, wasn’t/weren’t + S?
  Ví dụ: They were late, weren’t they? (Họ đến trễ phải không?)
• Động từ thường: S + V2/ed + O, didn’t + S?
  Ví dụ: She had to leave early, didn’t she? (Cô ấy phải rời sớm phải không?)

2.5. Thì tương lai đơn

• S + will + V_inf, won’t + S? S + will + not + V_inf, will + S?
  Ví dụ: You’ll be back soon, won’t you? (Có phải bạn sẽ quay lại sớm?)

2.6. Động từ khiếm khuyết (modal verbs)

• S + modal verbs + V_inf, modal verbs + not + S?
• S + modal verbs + not + V_inf, modal verbs + S?
  Ví dụ: The children can swim, can’t they? (Bọn trẻ có bơi được không?)

Lưu ý: Trong câu hỏi đuôi, chúng ta luôn sử dụng các đại từ chủ ngữ (I, he, it, they,..) để đặt câu hỏi. Nếu là câu hỏi đuôi phủ định, chúng ta dùng hình thức tỉnh lượt giữa “not” với “to be” hoặc với trợ động từ (isn’t, don’t, doesn’t, haven’t, didn’t, can’t, won’t,…).
