LESSON 1 (Period 1)

OBJECTIVES

  1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to

– Correctly pronounce the sounds of the consonant cluster pl and cl in isolation, in the words playground and in the sentences Let’s go to the playground

– Grammar: Use Is this our ____? – Yes, it is/ No, it isn’t to ask and answer questions about their school

– Practice skills: listen to and understand simple exchanges in relation to the topic “Our school”. Read and write about a school

  1. Competences:

– Communication, self study, self-check

  1. Quality: Students can read, understand meaning and distinguish words

STUDENTS’ACTIVITES

A. WARM- UP (5’)

a. Goal: Refresh pupils’ memory of the previous unit

b. Organization

– T has pupil sing the song My hobby from Unit 5 then gets pupils to open their books on page 44 and look at Unit 6, Lesson 1, Activity 1.

– T write the tiitle “Our school” on the board anf model it for the class to repeat a few times then tell pupls what they will learn in this lesson.

B. PRESENTATION

Activity 1. Listen and repeat

a. Goal: To understand and correctly repeat the sentences in two communicative contexts (pictures) to ask and answer question about their school

b. Organization

– T draws pupils’ attention to the picture. Point at each picture, ask questions to help them indentify names of the speakers in the piture

– T play the recording for them to listen. T plays the recording again, sentence by sentence, for pupils to listen and repeat.

– T invite a few pairs to the front of the classs to listen and repeat the sentences

– T correct their pronunciation where necessary. T draws their attention to the questions Is this our school? The answers Yes, it is and No, it isn’t. T tells pupils that they are used to ask and answer about their school

Activity 2. Point and say

a. Goal: To correctly sat the words and use is this our_____? – Yes, it is/ No, it isn’t to ask and answer questions about their school

b. Organization

– T has pupils look at the pictures and elicit the places at school

– T has pupils at picture a, listen to the recording and repeat the word. T follows the same procedure with the other three pictures. T has the class repeat at the words a few times. Hold up the flas card for school, classroom, library and playground and have pupils say the words

– T points at the question in the bubble and picture a and have pupils listen to the recording and repeat the question. Point at picture a and has pupils listen to the recording and repeat the answer.

T invite a few pairs to point at the pictures, ask and answer the question in front of the class.

T gives comments on their pronunciation

Audio script:

C. PRACTICE

Activity 3: Let’ talk

a. Goal: To enhance the correct use of Is this our____? -Yes, it is?/ No, it isn’t to ask and answer questions about their school

b. Organization

– T has pupils look at the pictures, teacher points at a cetain room to elicits the question and the answer in context. T sticks the flash card for school, classroom and point at a certain flash card to elicit the question and answer. I

– T invites some pairs of pupils to the front of the class to perform their conversations.

T gives comments on their pronunciation.

*Vocabulary:

– school (n): trường học

– playground (n): sân chơi

– classroom (n): phòng học

– library (n): thư viện

Audio script:

– Ss sing the song My hobby from Unit 5 then open their books on page 44 and look at Unit 6, Lesson 1, Activity 1.

– Pupils look at picture a and b then listen to re recording and repeat

Picture a:

-Teacher: Look at the picture. Is this our school?

– Pupil: Yes, it is. It’s our school

Pcture b:

-Teacher: Is this our school?

– Pupil: No, it isn’t.

– SS listen to the recording and repeat the word.

– SS listen to the recording and repeat the question.

– Pupils practice asking and answering the questions Is this our____? – Yes, it is/No, it isn’t in pairs.

*Vocabulary:

– One pupil point at a prompt picture or a school room flash card and ask; another pupil answers in context
